Excellence in Affordable Internet Service

ACP Wind-Down Update

Our commitment

At Excess Telecom, we are proud to provide you with exceptional mobile internet coverage through various plans and programs, including the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). As communicated, the ACP may be ending in the coming weeks if congress does not provide new subsidy funding. Regardless of what happens with the ACP, we will continue to provide you with innovative mobile services at affordable prices.

Current Customers

If the US Congress fails to provide additional funding for the ACP, April will be your last full month of receiving subsidized broadband coverage through the ACP. To help minimize the impact if ACP funding is not provided, Excess Telecom will cover your subsidized ACP service for the whole month of May.

Looking ahead, should the ACP conclude, we are committed to helping you maintain your access to affordable broadband and continued connection to important resources, education and work. Details of these efforts and your options to maintain your exceptional service with Excess Telecom will be shared with you within the coming weeks. Our goal is to minimize any impact on you and to continue supporting your broadband needs in every way we can.  You will have an opportunity to opt out or change your current ACP subsidized mobile service plan before you are charged if the ACP ends. You may be required to pay our unsubsidized rates subject to our general terms and conditions if you decided to keep your current service plan.

New Customers

New enrollments into the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) stopped on February 7, 2024 and the ACP will run through April (May for Excess Telecom customers) unless the Federal government approves more funding. Customers enrolled in the ACP as of February 8, 2024 will continue to receive ACP coverage unless the ACP ends or they lose program eligibility.

ACP Wind-Down FAQs

The current funding for the ACP is projected to run through April 2024. If Congress does not approve additional funding before then, the ACP will end. At Excess Telecom, we are confident that additional funding will be secured. For example, the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act — a bipartisan and bicameral bill introduced in Congress on Jan. 10, 2024 — would provide $7 billion in additional funds for the ACP if Congress passes this new legislation.

The ACP wind down is a process initiated on Jan. 11, 2024, by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which oversees the ACP. This action was taken due to the current lack of additional funding from Congress. It outlines the requirements and guidance for concluding the ACP, as the program's funding is only expected to run through April 2024.

Unless the US Congress provides additional funding for the ACP, this April will be your last full month of receiving subsidized ACP benefits. To help minimize the impact if ACP funding is not provided, Excess Telecom will cover your subsidized ACP service for the whole month of May. If this funding is not provided, we will notify you about the ending of the ACP and you would be required to pay our undiscounted rates subject to our general terms and conditions to keep your current service plan. At that time, we would also offer alternative affordable plans to keep you connected. You will have an opportunity to opt out or change your service before you are charged for your service plan if the ACP ends.

The last day to enroll as a new ACP-eligible customer was Feb. 7, 2024. Existing ACP customers will continue to receive their benefit through April 2024 (May for Excess Telecom customers). If Congressional approval for ACP funding is not secured, you will receive communications from Excess Telecom about your plan options.

On Feb. 8, 2024, an ACP enrollment freeze goes into effect. Subscribers who de-enroll or are de-enrolled due to non-usage or for failure to pass the annual recertification during the enrollment freeze period, will not be able to re-enroll in ACP during the enrollment freeze period.

Yes. The annual ACP recertification process is still required for ACP subscribers during the enrollment freeze period. We want to make sure you continue to enjoy the benefits, so please ensure you complete this process at your scheduled time.

Absolutely! You can transfer your ACP benefit to Excess Telecom at any time, and there's no need to requalify. The usual rules related to transfer limits will still apply.

Yes. During the enrollment freeze period, consumers eligible for a one-time connected device benefit may purchase one from Excess Telecom.
